Yeah Sleepy Cove! I can’t thank you enough for letting us stay at your very beautiful home. We could not get enough of the beautiful scenery. I had lost twenty five pounds when I was home, with Vianney and Freddie’s cooking I know we all gained some weight.
Monday we went fishing on Sea Boss with Captain Allen and mate Corbin. They did their jobs exceptionally well! I have been fishing with Annette in Venezuela and have mated in Lewes, Delaware as a kid and this crew is world class simply put! We had numerous hook ups with sailfish and Mahi Mahi. We released three or four sailfish at boat side and boated and released three more for pictures.
We landed more Mahi Mahi and then went to another area later for more mahi mahi and there Patrick hooked into and released boat side a Pacific Blue Marlin 9 feet and 350 pounds! What a hog Primo! For being off season; you were right. We were all exhausted.
Francisco is an excellent tour guide! We went to Buena Vista and Tempisque River tour as you suggested. Francisco made the trip very educational and informative, just like Biology class. We all loved the tours! The people and the food of Costa Rica were simply wonderful! We were favorably impressed.
Love Pat and Annette
What can we say about Sleepy Cove in the secluded paradise of Costa Rica? One thought instantly came to our minds as soon as we arrived there. The thought was "How Great Thou Art". If there is a heaven on earth we definitely found it. The well thought out plan and the architectural design of this property is so tranquil. The natural beauty of the main house is perched high on the hillside with an endless pool providing the perfect oasis overlooking the ocean.
Then there are three sleeping villas which provide five bedrooms that sleep 14 people very comfortably. The bedrooms were very spacious and the beds were very comfortable. There was a cove beneath the bedrooms that magnified the sounds of the waves which would put us to sleep so peacefully. The main house and all the villas provided panoramic views of the coast of Coco Beach, the ocean, sailboats and fishing boats, the changing tides, the awesome sunsets and the entertainment of the wildlife around us.
Then there was the live in staff, Vianney and Freddie. Their food was exquisite. We did not go out to eat in any restaurant because we did not believe it could top their cooking. Also it was such a delight that they did our laundry and cleaned our rooms. They were both such delightful people. They were wonderful!!!!!
We also took amazing tours. Our tour guide was Giovanni. He went above and beyond on his tours for us. He took us on the canopy and zip-line tour, the wildlife river cruise and the most interesting tour of the sand people. Amazing!! We also sailed on the catamaran and went fishing with Captain Sully and his crew. They were all fabulous.
We loved the beauty of Costa Rica and the most friendliness of its people. Photos can't describe the beauty and peacefulness of Sleepy Cove and all it offers. It is indescribable. You just have to go and experience it yourself. Our appreciation to all for our fabulous vacation. Thank you Jim and Rob for sharing your slice of heaven to all of us.
We just wanted to share some wonderful pictures of our vacation in Playa del Coco, Costa Rica. We stayed at a beautiful house with a wonderful host in Sleepy Cove.
I just have to tell you we just got home from your beautiful house and I must say it was one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen in my life! We only left the house quickly to grab groceries and on our last night to have a drink at the beach club in the 6 days there. We were TOTALLY content just staying in the pool staring at that view ALL day long! Thank you so much for everything and we will most definitely be back!
My wife and I have now had the pleasure of staying at Sleepy Cove three different times. The weather, the people, the food and the scenic beauty are all almost perfect. Of all of the vacations we have taken, Sleep Cove is our favorite destination. On each trip we have taken friends along and no one has ever been disappointed. The "list" of friends for the next trip is growing! I think that one of the best attributes of a Sleepy Cove vacation is that you can do a lot, a little or nothing at all.
Dennis & Tammy
We stayed at Sleepy Cove for 12 days at the end of August. For most of us, it was our first time. Words cannot describe the amazing sunsets we could see from the villas in the evenings. On the trip, we covered a range of activities, including: snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, jet-skiing, zip-lining and fishing. The staff prepared many of our meals, including fish that we had caught on our outing. We visited a number of restaurants in town, and also one (off the beaten trail) that Chiko showed us while touring the Tempisque river. It was a great time, and did not last nearly long enough, we are already talking about our next trip back to Sleepy Cove.
We just got back from an awesome vacation at Sleepy Cove! My fiance and I went with ten other friends (12 total) and spent the week in Playa del Coco. It was incredible! The view was perfect, Vianney and Freddy were so hospitable, and the weather was incredible. Vianney cooked us dinner almost every night (including fresh fish that the guys caught on their fishing trip) and we enjoyed typical Costa Rican rice and beans for breakfast every morning. We decided to take a day trip to Buena Vista to see the rain forest, do some zip lining, and then relax at the waterfall and hot springs. We also went to Tamarindo for a day to surf and enjoy a white sand beach, and the guys went fishing. Then we kayaked and enjoyed the beach club from Playa del Coco. Chico, the property manager, was so helpful in arranging everything that we did. It was the trip of a lifetime, and we hope to go back to sleepy cove again soon!!
I wanted to take a minute and write y'all a note about our trip to Costa Rica June 2nd thru the 9th. My wife, son, and myself joined several of our friends in a week-long trip to what I now know is Paradise!! Fantastic!!! From the minute we landed until boarding the plane for our trip home, Costa Rica and the people of Costa Rica were nothing but FANTASTIC!!! Your home, or should I say “your mini resort”, is a perfect place to relax. Sitting in the infinity pool and watching the sunset over the bay was spectacular. Those views are amazing!!! The full time on-site staff, Freddy and Vianney, were great!!! They took care of our tough crowd while we were there. They looked after all of our food and drink needs without being intrusive. They also did a terrific job with washing our clothes and keeping the rooms clean. It was very nice to get home and almost everything we had taken was already clean. That helped make it an easier transition home. Vianney, along with Freddy’s help, is a terrific cook. I almost hated to go out for dinner the one night we went into town and ate. I would also like to give kudos to Chico and the guys that he used for our fishing and snorkeling trips. Everything was handled very well and the guys made the trips enjoyable and easy. And last but not least, a special Thank you to Chico. Our driver and guide for our trips to and from the airport as well as Arenal. He was very informative, did an excellent job of driving, and found us a great little local restaurant for lunch on our ride back from Arenal. Top Notch, be sure to keep him around!! Thanks again for our stay in paradise!!! We can’t wait until We get a chance to return!!!
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to spend an entire week at Sleepy Cove in March 2012. This being my first trip to Costa Rica, I was expecting breathtaking scenery and diverse culture, but what I actually experienced was this and so much more. Upon arriving, I was taken aback by the beauty of the property. Not only do the three villas sit atop a hill overlooking the entire beach of Playa del Coco, they also stand directly beneath a spacey main guest house and edgeless pool. The three sleeping villas are large enough to fit at least 5 people comfortably, and the full length windows offer guests panoramic views of the coast. The cove below magnifies the sound of the waves, which created the perfect lullaby to fall asleep to every night. Palm trees by the pool offered shade during the warm afternoons and endless margaritas that the cook, Vianney, whipped up kept us cool all day. Vianney was very hospitable, consistently cooking fabulous meals, while taking into account our food preferences. Her morning coffee blend was amazing! We all looked forward to quietly meditating, authentic locally grown coffee in hand, outside our villas on the wooden rocking chairs every morning as the sun rose. Overall, staying at Sleepy Cove was a delight, as was exploring what Costa Rica has to offer. Our group went fishing, visited several beautiful waterfalls, hiked through the rainforest, visited live volcanic sulfur pools, saw endangered species at the zoo, taste local cuisine, and shopped downtown. No matter how exhausted we were from our action filled days of exploration, Sleepy Cove offered us all the comforts of home and more!
Sleepy Cove is a perfect place to bring a bunch of family members, there were 10 of us and we had plenty of room. The service and food prepared by Vienne was just amazing, she is known as one of the best cooks in town. We always had breakfast and most of the time we had lunch in, and split our time of dinners between staying in and going to town. Having both Freddy and Vienna there taking care of us, made the trip so special for our whole family that I can’t say enough. We also had great help from Chico, who made sure that we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend that anyone going, to make sure you reach out to Chico before you plan any of your excursions. He knows everyone and WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU! Some of the excursions that we enjoyed, scuba diving, zip line, horseback riding, deep sea fishing, and a drive to Tamarindo. We were even able to have the local dive shop come to the house and let everyone try scuba and after we planned a couple ocean dives, it was a great experience for everyone. We normally go somewhere different each vacation, but all loved Sleepy Cove so much, that we are planning on going back so we can enjoy the amenities of Sleepy Cove and the town of Playa Del Coco.
Our stay at Sleepy Cove was magnificent!! The trip to Costa Rica was great but it would have been a completely different trip without Sleepy Cove, Vienne, and Freddy! They are truly delightful people and such wonderful cooks! I wish someone in our group had better Spanish skills because they were such sweet people and I would have loved to have been able to truly express my gratitude. To be able to come back to the villa after a long day of hiking or zip lining and have dinner waiting was such a luxury at such a great price. The only thing this place was missing was a hot tub.. I imagine most of the year it isn't something most people would miss, however we went during the rainy season o it would have been welcomed! We usually have a rule about not traveling to the same place twice, there is just too much to see in this world, but I might have to go back to Costa Rica just to stay at Sleepy Cove again. I will definitely recommend Sleepy Cove to all of my friends. The whole experience has set a new standard on how I will travel in the future!
-Sarah & Jon
Just got back today. We had a wonderful time staying at Sleepy Cove! Vianney took great care of us and her chef skills were amazing! I would go back just for her cooking :) Fransico was an excellent tour guide and Chico coordinated everything we asked of him. We all enjoyed ourselves and miss it already!
Our family vacation at Sleepy Cove could not have been more fun. Ten of us, ranging from 10 to 67, all had lots to see and do and RELAX.. As the Mom the very best part was having Vienney there to fix our meals and pamper us. My favorite part was getting up early, enjoying a cup of fabulous coffee on our terrace, watch the birds, and then being called for breakfast. A housewife's dream. All the excursions were great but, being able to relax at the end of the day in the pool and having delicious meals served to you by Vienney and Freddie made it a unique vacation. Hope you will enjoy looking at a few of our pictures.
We (9 guests) spent a restful ... yet thrilling vacation at Sleepy Cove. The cook gave us a guacamole-fixing lesson which we threatened to put on You Tube because it was so much fun! One morning, the fishing guide put us on a big "mess" of grouper, after which he "beached" the boat at a charming spot. The Sleepy Cove staff was already there, with hot coals on a fire...everything was set up for our delicious shore lunch. We did canopy tours, inland tours, and even took a day trip into Nicaragua with our cousin Sheila who lives in Coco. We also went spear fishing, which was such a thrill that our son wrote his college application essay about it! The seperate master suites were great, as was the pool. Our family has traveled the world, and this was undoubtedly our very favorite trip (i am NOT exaggerating). This summer will be Rome, Italy, but our family keeps asking over and over to PLEASE, LET'S GO TO COSTA RICA AGAIN SOON!
What can we say about Sleepy Cove, other than GORGEOUS! The house is lovely, the pool is great and the views are magnificent! We ususally stay in the Flamingo Beach area when we visit Costa Rica, but decided to try something new. Downtown Coco was entertaining. We enjoyed going to Coconuts for lunch. The food was good, and they had plenty of TVs to watch. The nighlife in Coco was hopping, and had great people watching. At the end of the day, it was nice to know we were heading back to paradise to relax and enjoy the wonderful sunsets! It was just the two of us, but we really enjoyed it and enjoyed getting to know Viennay & Freddie. They are Wonderful people! We will definelty come back to Sleepy Cove, and we'll be sure to recommend it to our friends. We know they won't be disappointed.
Thank you for sharing your home with us!
-Mike & Lynn
We had a fabulous time! Every single one of us. I hope you will have us back. Seven of us, ages 23 – 53, spent Christmas Week as the happy guests of Sleepy Cove. We’re a well traveled group who decided to be brave on our first trip to Costa Rica, forgo the luxury hotel scene, and jump into life in a beach town. Each one of us gave rave reviews and will definitely return to this scenic country and this relaxed and welcoming town.
The adventure starts when you enter the gate and begin the steep and curvy climb to the house. From the moment you gaze upon the unbeatable view of Coco Bay you will be congratulating yourself for choosing Sleepy Cove. The view provides entertainment all day long. The tides, the yachts, the sailboats, the skies all change throughout the day. Each night we took shots of the sunset and each was different and more spectacular than any we’ve seen.
Sleepy Cove provides everything you’ll need for a relaxing vacation. The pool provides a refreshing and beautiful centerpiece for the property. You’ll find yourself lounging poolside day and night. When the need arose we could be in touch with the rest of the world with CNN and the laptop. International cell phones work great in all the towns we visited. The sleeping quarters are very comfortable and the waves will lull you off to a great night’s sleep.
Lucia and Raul graciously dealt with our rudimentary Spanish and we managed to communicate very well on household issues. Lucia prepared wonderful Costa Rican meals for us on our schedule. Breakfasts were ample and different each day. We had three dinners at the house, Chicken and Rice, Shrimp and Rice and Grilled Mahi Mahi, and all of us were very happy. Playa del Coco and the nearby town Playa del Hermosa have a good number of dining choices. We especially enjoyed Villa Italia and returned there for a second night. This tiny establishment, in a surprising neighborhood location, is owned by a young Italian couple. She is the cook, he is the waiter and their bulldog shows up to say hello.
Chico, the caretaker, can provide info on just about any issue that may arise. He arranged transfers to and from the airport and several tours. Do not miss Buena Vista which is a very scenic and interesting 2 hour drive away. A volcanic steam bath will prepare you for a volcanic mud bath followed by a shower of river water and dunks in multiple natural hot spring pools. All relaxed? Get strapped onto a cable 50 feet up in a tree and zoom from platform to platform on the very well managed canopy tour. Want more excitement? The river water slide awaits. Other days some of us were delighted with a river tour which got you up close to the wild. Monkeys, crocs, and iguanas were the highlights. A wonderful guide Norberto accompanied us on these tours. His English is excellent having studied in the US and he is a funny and personable young man. Surf? Don’t miss Ollie’s Point and Witches Rock which requires an boat ride to access. Even those who did not surf enjoyed the snorkeling and the scenery. Chico can arrange all this for you.
So without reservation, I can wholeheartedly recommend you take the plunge and stay at Sleepy Cove. I read all the guest book entries before going and I can tell you now each one of them reflects the tone and ambiance of Sleepy Cove. Go for it! You’ll love it.
The overall vacation was wonderful. Sleepy Cove Villa was so nice and exceeded my expectations. Vianey and Freddie were excellent hosts. The food was fantastic. The rooms were nice and the beds so comfortable. The views are breathtaking. The pool was so refreshing and kept very clean. All 8 of us enjoyed ourselves totally. I would recommend this vacation villa to anybody. Thanks again to Vianey & Freddie for all the special attention as well as Chico who helped us with all of our tours of beautiful Costa Rica.
Our stay was great. Your place is wonderful-so comfortable, incredible setting, view, etc! Loved coming home from the days events to the pool, cocktails at sunset, and our meal prepared!! All went well. You have found an incredible chef in Vianay! We only went out to eat ONE night...just to experience Playa del Coco at night...because our meals were so great "at home". We loved the beauty of Costa Rica and the friendliness of its people. So glad we discovered Sleepy Cove.
Thank you so much.
My wife and I have never been away in all of the time we have been married. I could not have selected a better place on earth for our vacation than Sleepy Cove at Playa del Coco. We experienced surfing in Tamarindo, zipped through the rain forest on the Monkey Trail, and enjoyed wonderful lunches and dinners in Coco. Every morning we woke to a wonderful breakfast full of fresh fruit and samplings of the local foods of Costa Rica. Aside from all of the wonderful things to do and foods to eat, we enjoyed the company of the locals. The caretakers of Sleepy Cove, Lucia and Raul, made us feel at home as if we were part of their family. My wife and I will be returning to Sleepy Cove very soon. Pura Vida!
It is an absolutely amazing spot, you have created at Sleepy Cove. We all loved it, and had one of our best holidays ever ! Sleepy Cove was wonderful, fantastic and just the perfect place to stay. The kids basically moved into the pool ::) ...... And Lucia and Raul were wonderful and Chico was extremely helpful. We can highly recommend a daytrip to Monteverde and a local fishing trip, where we got the opportunity to play Robinson Crusoe.......
We are definitely coming back!
We had the best vacation we have ever had. Costa Rica & Sleepy Cove are both fantastic. Lucia & Raul are wonderful and warm people. We enjoyed staying with them very much. We felt as if we were home the entire stay. The Sunsets were spectacular. Chico was very helpful. We enjoyed our fishing trip very much and really enjoyed the eating the Dorado & Whaoo that Lucia prepared for us. The Tempisque River was unbelievable. We even got to hold a baby alligator. We all didn’t want to leave at the end of the week.
We will be back again.

Dear Sleepy Cove,
We want to thank you again for the wine that greeted us, for having Lucia available to cook our meals, for having Chico available to arrange trips/car rentals and for renting us your gorgeous villa. We had a wonderful vacation in Costa Rica and the best part of it was your villa and Raul and Lucia. They took very good care of us.
We enjoyed the house so much, that we didn't do as many excursions as we had planned. Some days, we just stayed at the house, swam in the pool, read, ate, and/or walked on the beach and in the town. It was the most relaxing vacation we have ever taken. We had great company and all six of us got along fabulously.
We hope that your time in Playa Del Coco is as relaxing and fun as our time was. The weather was perfect everyday and what a view from your house--that was a joy! We ate in a couple of good restaurants--Hotel Coco and Papagayos. We also spent an afternoon at your beach club. We made several trips to the Pops ice cream store and new super market in Playa del Coco. Whoever designed and built your house did a great job. What a comfortable house and the setting is beautiful.
I wake up everyday and dream that I am up on your mountain, sitting by the pool, drinking my tea and looking out at the ocean and beach. What a setting! The last couple of snowy days have been a real "reality check." I hope that the ground hog was right and that we only have six more weeks of winter. I am tired of shoveling snow and bundling up to go outside. It makes me want to retire in CR! I still dream about waking up every morning to that cloudless blue sky, soft breeze, singing birds, delicious breakfast and spectacular view of the ocean and the village. I felt like I was in a movie!
-Jeff, Karen, Dottie, Roger, Paul & Nancy
First of all we want to thank you for let us to spend the week on paradise!!!! Your house is lovely and you have the greatest view I have ever seen in Costa Rica, you must be very proud of this. In behalf of all my family we wanted to let you know, that we had a great vacation in your house! It was like being in paradise for a whole week.
You have a lovely home and you have 2 wonderful caretakers as well. They were very special with us; I must say the same of Chico who was very nice with us from the beginning. I wish you the best for this New Year and hopefully we will visit you sometime at Sleepy Cove!!! Who knows???
Thanks for everything!
Sleepy Cove is first-class! We would go back in a minute! The view from the house is picture-post card amazing and we loved the infinity pool - very relaxing to come back to after a day out and about. The rooms were very well appointed and there was plenty of room for our group of 8 to spread out. The live-in couple kept the house very clean and we loved Vianney's cooking. Everything she made was delicious. I miss the fresh fruit we had each morning and we all loved her pancakes. And my daughter has a new favorite dish - Vianney's Arroz con pollo!
The location is great for beach hopping, access to tours and access to the town of Playa Del Coco. Chico was very helpful in setting up two tours for us and secured Francisco, our tour guide who was excellent! It was a pleasure talking with Francisco as he was driving us to and from the Buena Vista Combo tour - which was a blast - and the Tempisque River tour - a really fun and interesting tour during which we saw Crocodiles and fed bananas to wild, white-faced monkeys!!! We felt very comfortable and safe with Francisco the whole time. We explored several beaches - twice went to the beach around the right peninsula from Coco the one headed towards Playa Hermosa. We also enjoyed a morning on the far right end of Coco beach.
We enjoyed the town of Playa Del Coco and had some nice meals there. We went to Coconutz a few times - a fun place to just hang out – and really enjoyed a great dinner at Coco Palms hotel/ restaurant. We also enjoyed a local "Soda" (eatery) named Teresita, located where the main road ends right on the beach. But actually some of the best meals were at the house! We highly recommend Sleepy Cove and going on tours with Francisco!

I just got back from a magical week at Sleepy Cove with friends from around the US. It was so wonderful to have such a gorgeous setting for a reunion of friends, and we could not have enjoyed it all more. Chico was very attentive and helpful; we appreciated his help and suggestions. Getting people to and from the airport, and arranged a wonderful day trip of snorkeling and a delicious meal on the beach.
Having previously stayed there, it was a no-brainer that I'd try to return with more friends as soon as I could, and they were NOT disappointed. All my friends couldn't believe I had found a spot that was so perfect for us, and I'm sure have all gone home with smiles and memories to last a lifetime.
THANK YOU AGAIN!!! we all had a magical time... :)
The house is perfect for groups, although the four of us enjoyed the family time with just us. Thank you also for the Arenal Lodge recommendation. We left Sleepy Cove a day early so we could spend the night at the lodge before heading back home. Also, I would love to get an address to send something for Chico as a thank you. He was an indispensable resource during our trip, however, he went above and beyond when I left several items in a closet at the property. Chico arranged to have my things delivered to our hotel in San Jose before we left...I cannot imagine a hotel being able to do that!
Everything from the accommodations, to the presence of Raul and Lucia (helpful but not invasive...perfect), to our day trips to local beaches and attractions, was better than we could have expected! Thank you so much for sending some extra business cards...we gave all our other ones away and that was BEFORE we went to Sleepy Cove and had the best vacation we have ever had! We can't wait to go back to Playa del Coco and hope to bring along some friends and family.
Jim, the attached picture is of me in the pool at the Sleepy Cove villa. As you can see, it looks as if I am right on the ocean. I travel a great deal and I always like to stay at the best places. I brought a group of people with me who also pretty jaded travelers and we were all absolutely blown away. This place is "Brad and Angelina" kind of stuff. Five beautiful, private rooms down below the amazing pool and party room area. The staff is there for your every need whether it is running to get more food or drink or cooking an amazing dinner...with better service than most restaurants anywhere in the world. If anyone is looking for a place with a great location, service, privacy, view, nightlife, and pretty much everything you could ever imagine, sleepy cove is the place. I will stay there every single time I come back to Coco. It was absolutely spectacular.
Our group of ten visited Sleepy Cove in November and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed a jungle tour, fishing, a canopy tour, snorkeling, fine dining and relaxing around the pool. Raul & Lucia were fabulous and Chico was a difference maker in arranging all of our events. He never steered us wrong! The villa is well maintained and secure other than the monkey, coatimundi and iguanas! I would definitely recommend Sleepy Cove to anyone interested in exploring Costa Rica!
On our recent family trip to Costa Rica. We left home for this land known as "Pura Vida". We would stay there for 11 fun-filled and inspiring days. We thought we would spend some vacation time on a beautiful and secluded Central American Beach. We headed up to the northern coast where it stays the driest. Our destination was Sleepy Cove - a beach house perched high on the hillside overlooking the ocean. It was located in the small beach town of "Playa del Coco" also known as Coco Beach. It was without a doubt the perfect vacation destination!
Raul and Lucia are the on site grounds keepers of Sleepy Cove. We became good friends with both of them and enjoyed some fine cuisine. The family favorite was tamales Nicaraguan style. They are fantastic. The kids favorite was the tacos. Everyone loved the famous Arroz con Pollo as well.
Sleepy Cove was a dream vacation. We only wished we could stay their longer. We will definitely recommend.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sleepy Cove for making our annual girl's trip the best! As the trip organizer, I am always a little worried about whether the website and the actual property actually match. I breathed a sigh upon descending the staircase from the parking pad - it was even better than I had hoped! In this case, the photos can't quite convey the wonderful experience Sleepy Cove is. From the fantastic set-up for groups that allow both privacy and ample room for get-togethers to the charm of having great staff, a pet coatimundi , infinity-edge pool, great views and cool breezes, there wasn't anything left to be desired for our group. We had a party of sixteen - and all were comfortably sheltered, entertained and fed with Lucia's excellent breakfasts. We all enjoyed the adventures we planned with Chico's help - from sailing and diving to zip lines and mud baths. In fact, we all enjoyed the massages on location at Sleepy Cove that most of us wound up having two sessions each!
All of us "Divas" would tell you personally that Sleepy Cove made the trip the best ever. As the organizer, I now have a challenging task ahead of me in planning the next trip - I have to live up to the experience we had at Sleepy Cove!

There were 10 of us at Sleepy Cove, extended family, parents, grandmother, teenagers, and cousins. We all had a great time. Sleepy Cove is a beautiful place to stay and the location is a wonderful setting. The set up gives everyone space. Lucia, Raul, and Chico all helped in making the trip a wonderful time. Costa Rica is a beautiful and fun country. We did the Zip-line (even grand-mom) went fishing, snorkeling, eco tour, went to the beach and ate a lot of good food. Driving around Costa Rica is an experience in itself. We would love to return soon.
Our trip to Costa Rica started with a lost suitcase and the two cars we reserved, not available. We were transported to Sleepy Cove; by the people at Dollar rent a car-in the hot van. We were all tired, hot, hungry and a bit aggravated. However as we turned UP the driveway towards Sleepy cove we all laughed, and wondered where this adventure would take us now. Then we drove over the last incline and right to the parking area of sleepy cove, and each of us were speechless. Chico was with us at this point. We were each in awe as we stepped out of the van. From that moment, the vacation was off to a magnificent start and continued to the last moment. The housekeeper Vianey and her husband Freddy quickly became part of our family and we enjoyed sharing customs and culture. Vianey is a terrific cook and has a wonderful sense of humor. Our grandson Ryan could not get enough of her rice and beans. In the morning he gave up his usual first bottle, running to Vienay motioning to be picked up and quickly requesting a taste of rice and beans. It was really cute.
Chico was extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations and arranging the activities. We did the Tempisque river tour, which was quite an adventure. We saw lots of bird, crocs and white-faced monkeys. The kids (well not really kids) went on a snorkeling adventure, while we stayed back at Sleepy Cove to spend time with Ryan. They had a great time, as did we!!! On our last full day in Costa Rica we all went on the Buena Vista Canopy Tours. It was an awesome adventure of Horseback riding, hiking to the falls, suspension bridges, good food, hot pools, mud baths, water slide and of course the zip-lining. What an awesome day. I cannot believe I zip-lined. On our last night in Coco we had dinner at the Coco Palms, and reminisced about our week; which went by way too fast. The next morning we had an early breakfast, did some early shopping in town and took our last dip in the pool. It was really hard to say good-bye to Vianey and Freddie, but we promised to stay in touch with our new Costa Rican friends. It was a fabulous vacation, and a blessing that all our adult children were able to enjoy it with us, as well as our main lil' man-Ryan. Sleepy Cove-we will return someday! Oh, and by the way-I got my suitcase back 24 hours after we arrived in Costa Rica and we also got our two rental cars from Dollar rent a car-delivered right to Sleepy Cove. Luxury problems!
How fortunate we were to choose Sleepy Cove as our family getaway last month. We read carefully all that others had to say about the villa and we applied the usual amount of Yankee skepticism---what could possibly be that good?
Since we were newbies to Costa Rica we anticipated the typical "tourist" treatment found at Caribbean destinations: overpriced food, crowded beaches and indifferent service.
From the moment we stepped off the plane in the blazing Costa Rican sun we were charmed by the welcome we received. The fellow Sleepy Cove staff assigned to pick us up was great in orienting us to the country and brought us directly to Sleepy Cove. After the long trip, we were pleasantly surprised to find the villa even better than advertised....infinity pool, commodious rooms and breathtaking views.
It wasn't long before our introduction to Lucia and Raoul sealed the deal for the next 8 days of relaxation, restoration and superlative service. Chico arranged the tours, diving, surfing and fishing and was always open to last minute adaptations to our needs. We simply could not have asked for more and our appreciation to all for our best vacation, yet. Pura vida!"
If you are looking for heaven on earth, then Sleepy Cove awaits your arrival. From the spectacular views over Playa Del Coco, to the rustic but lively town of Coco , to meeting new friends like Lucia and Raul, Sleepy Cove offers an authentic taste of Pura Vida! Then, when you are ready to explore more of the country, Chico stands ready to arrange excursions for your group. If you are very lucky, Roberto and Chico will be your tour guide and driver. Roberto is very knowledgeable and proud of his country. We learned many interesting facts about Costa Rica . On top of that, he was attentive to our group’s every need. Our first excursion took us to Buena Vista where we Zip Lined through the jungle canopy, Swooshed down a 400 meter water slide, enjoyed a Costa Rican lunch, followed by horseback riding and a spa and mud bath. What a day!
On another day, Roberto and Chico took us to Arenal for a chance to see an active volcano. During this excursion, we also hiked down to La Fortuna Waterfall (a must see). Although the weather prevented us from seeing Arenal, the trip was still a great success. We also took several day trips on our own to experience the small town of Ocotol and the popular surfing town of Tamarindo. Our trip to Costa Rica was truly one to remember. As I write this, I find myself wishing I was once again at Sleepy Cove, cocktail in hand, overlooking that “One Particular Harbor!"
Where can you take three generations on the ultimate family vacation that pleases the youngest (age 4) and the oldest (age 76) and the teenagers and middle-ages between? SLEEPY COVE, Guanacaste , Costa Rica !! The natural beauty of the location of the house is breath taking. The endless pool provided the perfect oasis for all. The house design, with main house w/ kitchen, great room and pool above, and three separate sleeping villas below, was ideal for our family. We could gather together for swimming, meals, cocktails, games and dancing at the main house, but also retreat to the privacy of our own rooms for downtime.
Lucia and Raul kept us well-fed and the house and grounds absolutely spotless. Clean laundry and fabulous meals allowed us to really relax and enjoy each day. Mother Nature provided the beautiful setting and many friendly animal entertainers … the howling monkeys sang us to sleep, an iguana visited us poolside daily for a fruit snack, and the pizote (coatimundi) entertained the children and ate our leftovers. We were relaxed, but NEVER bored thanks to tours by Nolberto, drives up and down Laguna Vista (always an adventure), and trips (on foot and by car) to Playa de Coco. Thanks for the fabulous and unforgettable vacation!
We had a great time at Sleepy Cove!!! We had parrots about 5 pm in the tree next to the pool--got some great pictures. Five people went fishing and everyone caught a fish! 4 rooster fish and 1 bonita. Chico was very helpful with everything from calling taxis to arranging the Buena Vista tour and coming as our guide. The mud baths were awesome, and the horseback ride was a big favorite. As you can see, we had so much fun it was hard to select pictures to send you. Raul and Lucia were so nice and always helpful. They even got up the day we left at 4:30 am and had coffee, wished us a good trip, and helped pack the van. I think Chico can arrange anything. The entire group had a fantastic vacation and were very sad to leave. Of course we will recommend Sleepy Cove to all our friends!
Thanks so much,
We had the best time. A large crew of girls, twelve to be exact celebrated turning 40 birthday at Sleepy Cove. The accommodations were perfect for such a large number of "old ladies." We experienced adventures such as Hot Springs tour, zip lines, horseback riding. We spent time relaxing by the pool, and had many laughs and great times.
Sleepy Cove Rocks!
We had such a wonderful time in Costa Rica at Sleepy Cove! The accommodations were wonderful. I do have to say that the pictures on the web site do not do the real thing justice. It was absolutely beautiful!!!
Lucia and Raul were wonderful hosts! We really enjoyed getting to know them and practicing our Spanish with them!!! They did a fantastic job at the house and everything always looked impeccable! Lucia is a great cook and we quickly fell in love with her homemade tortillas and the Costa Rican cuisine! They were so thoughtful and helpful. Lucia took us to a great beach area that is popular with the local people. Raul and my son developed a bond and by the end of the week, my 4 year old was saying "Raul mi amigo!" We feel like we all made new friends in Costa Rica! Chico was also a big help to us. It was nice to have a local contact that could give us information or help with tours and fishing.
Thank you for all of your help also. This was a wonderful vacation that we will not soon forget! Not only will I be recommending Costa Rica to all my friends and family but I will also refer them to Sleepy Cove. Thanks again.
Great stay at Sleepy Cove. Chico of Blue Marlin Fishing arranged for a successful fishing trip. We caught many fish but the prize was a marlin that we caught on our trip. The guides know where the fish are! We got some great photos of sunsets from Sleepy Cove. Pictures do not do justice to the beauty of Sleepy Cove.
Dean and I just want to express how wonderful our trip to Costa Rica with our children was and especially how much we enjoyed the Sleepy Cove. It was everything we had hoped it would be and more!! The view was spectacular! Lucia and Raul mad our stay all the more special. We very much enjoyed the opportunity to attempt to communicate in Spanish and were always a little surprised with the results of the communication! They are very nice and warm people and they took very good care of us. I just wanted to make sure that I got in touch with you to thank you and tell you that we will certainly be recommending your villa to others and definitely plan on returning!!
Sleepy Cove was a fantastic place to relax, eat great food, and watch beautiful sunsets from a ten million dollar view. Accomodations were excellent and Lucea and Raul are very special hosts. Great fishing and visited nearby beaches of Playa Grande and Tamarindo to see world class waves. Can't wait to get back!
Our family loved Sleepy Cove. The view cannot be described in words. Coco is the greatest town and the people are so nice. We did some world class fishing which was very reasonable, catching Wahoo, yellow fin tuna, roosterfish, colorful fish, dorado, and many sailfish. The food was fantastic. Lucia is a great chef and person. I would recommend Sleepy Cove to anyone interested in experiencing Costa Rica.
As you walk into the oasis of Sleepy Cove you are suddenly transformed from the pressures of everyday life to pure tranquility. Sleepy Cove is designed to indulge the senses by embracing you with it's charm, beauty and serenity. It's an experience you'll want to have over and over. The trip up the driveway itself is an experience to remember.
Staying at Sleepy Cove was an unbelievable experience. In fact, this March will be my third time back to this great getaway destination. If you want rest and relaxation or just looking for outdoor action, Sleepy Cove has got it all. The Costa Rican scenery, people and food are second to none. I highly recommend the experience.
We stayed in this "little piece of heaven" in September 2006 and thought we had found paradise. The views are indescribable! The accommodations are first class. The thing that we most liked was the beautiful living areas and the negative edge pool for gatherings, yet the home has separation and privacy in the bedrooms for peaceful resting. Each bedroom villa has it's own living area and seating on it's balcony. The design of the home is wonderful. There is good shopping and great dining only minutes away from the house, yet you feel like you are all alone on the side of the mountain. We would definitely return to this spot again.
We enjoyed the many colorful birds in Costa Rica especially a small bananaquit that frequently visited Sleepy Cove. One day we arranged for a fishing trip. They picked us up right on Coco Beach, everything was included even lunch, drinks and very reasonable. Fishing was awesome! We also rented a kayak and explored around the peninsula to the right of Coco Beach and found the most amazing secluded crystal clear water with white sand beach, On the way over we got up close with a sea turtle.

I had the chance to visit Sleepy Cove in August and had an excellent time. Not only was the view from the top of the mountain fantastic, but I had the opportunity to experience many of things I had never done before. From overlooking a beautiful sunset off of a barstool in a never-ending pool to reeling in a Wahoo fish and eating it later on that evening, I had the time of my life. I had never been outside of the United States before and visiting Costa Rica had always been in my plans for the future. Let me tell you, Sleepy Cove was the place to have my first out of the country vacation. We made a trip up to see Arenal where I witnessed an active lava flow and took a dip at the Baldi Hot Springs. I caught some serious air on the waterslide there. The staff at Sleepy Cove was friendly and very inviting, nothing short of hospitable. I was able to have both an adventurous and relaxing vacation at the same time. Let your time disappear at Sleepy Cove in Costa Rica while an adventurous, exciting, once in a lifetime vacation unfolds.
Staying at Sleepy Cove was truly a relaxing yet fun filled vacation. Sitting in the cascading pool with the beautiful scenic ocean view with the mountains in the background and boats in the cove was breath taking. The main house was decorated classy along with each of the Villas. It was very clean and refreshing. And there is just something to say about having your meals prepared and served, your clothing washed and your bed made everyday. The fresh fruit - watermelon, papaya, pineapple and bananas was out of this world. Horseback Riding in Costa Rica was incredible. My guide taught me to gallop and we went up mountains as well as galloping across a beautiful open beach. There was no single file line of horses. The Canopy tour was exciting as well. Even my 79-year-old parents were swinging from tree to tree. There was so much to see and do and the people treat tourist so special. I felt like I was a queen.
